Frequently Asked Questions

Here at Chrysalis Dental Centres, we appreciate that you have questions and concerns. We want to help you make the most informed decision for your personal well-being, comfort, appearance, and self-confidence.

Are implants painful and do they create sensitivity?
Our patients typically report far less discomfort and a quicker healing time than they expected. Pain relievers are usually required for two or three days following the procedure and after that patients are typically pain-free. Most of our patients eat solid food on the day of surgery. You will be eating, laughing, smiling and enjoying life as if you just grew a brand new set of natural teeth.

What treatment options do you recommend for people who need to replace all of their upper or lower teeth?
There are many treatment options that provide improvements over failing teeth or removable dentures. The new All-on-4 implant solution brings patients very close to feeling like they have their own natural teeth. In our experience, most people prefer the comfort and freedom of fixed, non-removable teeth. That is what the All-on-4 solution delivers.

What is the All-on-4 implant solution, and why is it becoming such a popular treatment alternative?
All-on-4 is the next step in the evolution of full-arch tooth replacement. It is the easiest, most practical way to receive a full arch of non-removable replacement teeth in one day. They look like natural teeth and fit securely without adhesives. The new teeth will not rub or create sore spots, and they don’t slip or fall out. You can fully taste and enjoy your food because the roof of your mouth is not covered. All-On-4 teeth don’t come out at night and they don’t need special cleaning. You can eat whatever you like without a problem. You smile naturally, knowing your teeth look and feel real. All these reasons make All-on-4 the increasingly preferred solution for people facing or currently wearing dentures.

Do you perform bone grafting if there isn’t enough bone to hold the implants?
Even if the bone has significantly receded, the All-On-4 procedure can usually be performed without the need for grafting because of the innovative way the implants are placed. This is often not true for alternative implant techniques. We frequently meet patients who were told by their health care professionals that they will require bone grafting. They are delighted to hear that with the All-On-4 procedure, grafts are usually unnecessary.

What is the success rate of dental implants?
Chrysalis Dental Centres uses only implants provided by Nobel Biocare, one of the world’s leading implant manufacturers. With three decades of clinical experience and over a million patients treated, Nobel Biocare confirms a success rate of almost 95 percent.

Can age be a problem?
Health is more a determining factor than age. If you’re healthy enough to have a tooth extracted, you’re probably healthy enough to receive dental implants. Implant treatment may not be recommended for patients suffering from some chronic illnesses. An examination by one of our Chrysalis dentists, along with a review of your dental and medical history, will help to determine whether you qualify for an implant procedure. Most patients do qualify.

Can I get dental implants if I smoke?
Yes, you can. Many of our successfully treated patients have been smokers. There is a slightly increased risk of complications with active smokers. This will be discussed with you during your consultation.

How much do implants cost?
The cost of treatment varies significantly with the solution provided. Because we understand that price is a factor in your decision to proceed, during your consultation we’ll present you with an assortment of dental implant options. All fees are explained in advance. You’ll be given a written quote that includes all aspects of your treatment.

Are dental implants covered by insurance?
Some insurance companies offer partial reimbursement. It’s best to speak directly with your insurance provider. Chrysalis Dental Centres do offer payment plans to suit most budgets. We also accept certified cheques and credit cards. The cost of implants is a medical expense that can be deducted from your income tax, making it possible to recoup some of your investment. If you own a business, there are additional possible tax advantages which you should discuss with your accountant.

How do you ensure your patients’ comfort?
From the moment you walk through the door until long after you leave the office, our priority is your smile. That means our staff is committed to making you feel happy, comfortable, and attractive. We have a dedicated recovery room and offer transportation, refreshments, and whatever personal accommodations you may need. Are you nervous about going to the dentist? We provide sedation for people with dental fears, so you can stay conscious yet soothed, worry-free, and relaxed. We also can work closely with your own dental professional, making sure the entire process of placing your new teeth is a smooth and even enjoyable experience. Ask the hundreds of patients whom we have successfully treated. A list of references is available if you would like to speak to people who have received treatment in our offices.
